His time there was brief, as the family moved to South Carolina when he was just a few months old. His parents were in the Army and lived in South Carolina until he was about five. From age five to nineteen, they lived in Virginia.

What led Henry Jahn to join the Marines instead of the Army, like his parents? The answer lies in his youth. Henry was a juvenile delinquent, and after he got out of juvenile detention, his mother didn't trust him to be at home due to his expulsion from school. A neighbor introduced Henry to a man named Tony, who owned two Christian daycares and mentored misguided children like Henry.

At just 20 years old, Charlize's experiences have shaped her future ambitions, pushing her toward a veterinary technician (vet tech) career. A Love for Animals Born Early
Charlize's love for animals began in her childhood, growing up in Utah as one of four siblings. Her household was always full of pets, and animals were a part of daily life. French Bulldogs were a constant presence, as her mother bred them, but Charlize's home also hosted a variety of other creatures—cats, birds, fish, and even snakes. Charlize fondly recalls her tuxedo cat, Paddy, who became her "soul cat," staying with her for 19 years, almost her entire life. Paddy was more than just a pet; she was a calming, grandmotherly presence that shaped Charlize's connection with animals.

A Path to Veterinary Medicine: A Heart for Animals and People

Working in veterinary medicine wasn't part of Emily Bivins's original plan. Initially drawn to human healthcare, her journey took an unexpected turn when she discovered her true calling—caring for animals and their families.

"I started out pursuing human medicine and even got my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification," Emily shares. But as she searched for jobs, a posting for a kennel assistant at an animal clinic caught her eye. "I thought, 'I like animals, why not give it a try?'" That decision set the course for her career.

The animal clinic hired her as a receptionist, and Emily quickly realized how much she loved being part of a veterinary team. "I'd worked in customer service since I was 16, so talking to people came naturally. But being able to connect with people and their pets? That was something special."

Emily works at Cliffdale Animal Hospital, where she thrives in her role. "I love the environment," she says. "The team is great, and helping animals is incredibly rewarding. Seeing an animal go from struggling to thriving makes it all worth it." Her days are varied, keeping her on her toes. "On a typical day, I answer phones, review records, take messages, and handle scheduling. But it can get hectic. Some days, we're double or triple-booked, and emergencies always add an extra layer of challenge. You just have to roll with it and focus on helping."
